Some Animals Were Saved For A Sacrifice To A Worthy God
Reading through Genesis’ account of God’s direction to Noah this morning and it struck me that God is worthy of worship. He directed Noah to take 14 of every clean animal (seven males & seven females) because these were good for eating and sacrifice.
2 “You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female; ” Gen 7:2 NASB
After the waters had receded and Noah and his family could exit the ark he made a burnt offering to worship God because God is good and worthy of worship.
20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. Gen 8:20 NASB
This invites comparisons with Romans 9 where Paul alludes to several Old Testament passages about God, pointing out His sovereignty.
For He says to Moses, “I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION.” Rom 9:15 NASB
It may make God seem any number of bad things from our viewpoint but viewed within the context of the Bible, He is loving and patient and He desires that no one will be separated from Him eternally.
