Stay Focused In The Fight

November 6th, 2014

“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.”
Luke 21:34 ESV

Jesus’ admonition for His disciples is important for us today.

Prepare for Battle

Prepare for Battle

We are locked in battle with being more powerful and knowledgeable than we.  Their experience is many lifetimes longer than ours and yet it is through the power of Jesus’ name and His Holy Spirit that we fight.  We encourage one another with testimony, telling of what He promises and how He delivers.  It is through prayer and walking in the Spirit that we endure and work for His kingdom.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Ephesians 6:12-18 ESV

Don’t let your pain, your bills, your fears for your loved ones or anything distract from Jesus. He is the lover of your soul and the Holy One who sets people free. It feels difficult but Jesus promises rest for our souls.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29 ESV

We are told to persevere.  Don’t let up.

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:7-10 ESV

We cannot do it in our own strength.  We fail but God is faithful and He lifts us above our weak flesh.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 ESV

One day our great joy will be revealed in Jesus as He demonstrates His sovereignty over everything: sin, death and our enemy, Satan and his army.

And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.
And  they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony , for they loved not their lives even unto death.
Revelation 12:10-11 ESV

We are in battles; for our hearts, minds, families, churches.  We wage warfare that we might see His kingdom expanded and people who can’t understand how they’re prisoners to their own iniquity be set free by the God who loves them.  Be refreshed.  Our God has changed lives, continues to change lives and He will change lives even though you and I stumble and fall.  He is from everlasting to everlasting and His will will not be turned aside.
